YR_Architecture is a young Architecture & Interior design firm, founded in 2019. Our work is grounded on the principles of conscious design, an approach that celebrates local resources, cultural influences, a keen attention to detail and an inclusive process.

We follow an incremental methodology of innovation and root our learning in history and local context.

We explore ways to engage the user, the way they move through the space. We like taking design to an extremely conceptual stage. We find inspiration in ordinary things, everyday events and chance encounters.

The firm takes a deeply contextual approach to its work and combines this with a strong focus on the tactile and sensory qualities of the space. Our design process looks at sustainability through the multiple lenses of cultural, social and environmental impact. There is an active engagement in integrating localised skills and resources with state-of-the art materials and technologies.

Profile

We engage actively in the creation of contextually appropriate, sustainable design solutions within an increasingly changing world. Our studio work addresses new ways of understanding the often contradictory interrelations between the city, architecture, landscape, and the world of interiors. There is a growing need for our built environment to re-establish healthy relationships with the natural world. Similarly there is an urgency to address the population growth in urban and rural settings locally. Within this context, our work searches for a delicate balance between architecture as the act of disappearance, and creating characterful, responsive and experiential environments.

Design Scale

YR_Architecture works on a broad range of projects both in the public and private realm. We enthral in jumping from the extreme of the tiny scale of an architectural dollhouse to designing complex developments. The studio thrives in this wide variety and scales of its projects. Regardless of a projects scale, a common basis of the practice is its commitment to exemplary planning, design and execution. We approach a design brief in an open and explorative manner. We start by asking the right questions, before arriving at a common standpoint. This common point of departure then acts as a clear concept, which guides the design process.

DISCOVERY
Deep listening is integral to our process and results in design that is responsive to people and place. We begin each project with a series of in-depth conceptualisations, charrettes, and conversations, identifying specific goals and constraints. These initial sessions play a critical role in laying the groundwork for lasting relationships that are the foundation of each project’s success.

VISION
For each project, we craft a clear, central vision that reconciles client needs with site-sensitive design. Throughout our initial exploration, we test and experiment to establish a vision that guides our process and unifies our team.

COLLABORATION
We approach design as a dialogue between client, collaborators, and site – listening without preconception to collectively define a clear and compelling focus. We engage with trusted industry leading collaborators at the onset of each project, tapping into the collective strength of our skillsets throughout the entirety of our process.

SUSTAINABILITY
We believe in creating lasting architecture that incorporates environmentally and ethically responsible design. At a project’s inception, we outline climate action goals that are developed and carried out through the construction and design process. Our team is committed to forward-thinking, sustainable building science, and we strive to continuously educate ourselves about industry best practices.

Smart Solutions

Aesthetics, technological and environmentally friendly innovativeness are the corner stones of its guiding philosophy. Creating solutions for a context where scarcity affects architecture in multiple dimensions is an inherent part of our design philosophy. The acceptance of scarcity, whether it is in terms of the availability of materials and energy, building time, skilled labour, financial scarcity or restrictions due to remote locations of projects, is a tool to drive innovation. YR_Architecture approach to tackling these constraints is to search for smart solutions. The solutions should not only solve but also resonate the complex problems from which they arise in the first place.
